So, lets start with what is a greeting card. Originally, greeting cards derive from postcards ( which are single sided without the fold ) and are an illustrated, folded card usually featuring a message of greeting or other sentiment. They can be either printed or handmade. Now, with the advent of Internet though, virtual greetings cards have evolved which doesnot fit into the above-mentioned definition.
There many occasions to offer greetings, but one of the most popular are the birthday cards. Quite possibly, aside from the holiday wish card etc. these may have been the very first. There is nothing better than offering a colorfully packaged gift that comes with a matching beautiful card with a fun message in it. These are made to cater to every age with either humorous or loving messages inside. The childrens cards usually have various popular cartoon characters. Then there are teen cards that are a bit more mature and in many cases more humorous. The adult cards range from extremely amusing and funny or with adult insinuations to the more serious. There are options also that cater to different ages, such as the joke about being over the hill. Another popular form of greetings are the anniversary cards. These are a great way to show your loved one you are thankful for that special day.
By the late 1800s, Valentine cards were completely machine-made. The first of many saleable valentine greeting cards produced in the US was created in the 1840s. John Calcott Horsley was the architect of the first Christmas card, and Louis Prang has come to be known as the father of Christmas greetings. He migrated from Germany and started a small-scale lithographic unit close to Boston in the 1850s, and is generally responsible for starting the production of greeting cards in The United States. His lithographic techniques, including color, had been so perfected that he had no competition from artists and craftsmen. During the 1870s, he came up with exclusive editions of Christmas greetings, which were an instant hit in Britain.
A good business plan should include information on: A description of your business - what type of cards will your business offer? Who will want your product and how will you market your cards to potential clients? Think about what type of cards you will make in your business; are they romantic cards? Cards for special occasions? Cards directed at businesses? Do they have a theme like Cards for Golfers and Gardeners? Equipment and inventory needed - What equipment will be required to run your business? What type of inventory will you need to start? Where will you get the supplies and equipment you need to make your business operational and what will the cost of these materials be? Will you make the cards by hand or computer? Will you print all of your cards at home or send them to a printer to be done?
