Although greetings cards are usually given on special occasions such as birthdays, Christmas or other holidays, they are also sent on non-occasions to say hello or thank you. They are manufactured and/or hand-made by hundreds of companies big and small. Hallmark Cards and American Greetings are the largest producers of greeting cards in the U.S. Its the UK, where more cards per head are sent than any other nation. The UK continues as a world leader in this area, as well as leading the world in the region of greeting card design. What laid the foundation for the greeting card industry and when and how did it all began ? The custom of sending greeting cards can be traced back to the ancient Chinese, who exchanged messages of good will to celebrate the New Year, and to the early Egyptians, who conveyed their greetings on papyrus scrolls.
With the expense of mailing a greeting card continually rising, I think this type of card is going to keep growing by leaps and bounds. Not only that, it gives me a few more hours to not miss someones birthday because it only takes a minute to create and send one. With all of the different types of greeting cards that are available, its hard to top the handmade greeting cards if you are looking for something really personal. There is a lot of care, attention and time that goes into creating a greeting card. What could be better than sending someone you care about a homemade card, especially if it is one the you made. I know that some of my all time favorite cards are ones that my son made for me when he was in grade school.

Who will want your product and how will you market your cards to potential clients? Think about what type of cards you will make in your business; are they romantic cards? Cards for special occasions? Cards directed at businesses? Do they have a theme like Cards for Golfers and Gardeners? Equipment and inventory needed - What equipment will be required to run your business? What type of inventory will you need to start? Where will you get the supplies and equipment you need to make your business operational and what will the cost of these materials be? Will you make the cards by hand or computer? Will you print all of your cards at home or send them to a printer to be done?
